Amazon products appear with ChatGPT error messages in titles
Amazon sellers used ChatGPT to automate the creation of product listings but accidentally published the AI's refusal messages as product titles. This resulted in numerous listings appearing with phrases like "I cannot fulfill this request" as the product name.

What happened
Third-party sellers used generative AI to automate the creation of product listings for the Amazon marketplace. In many cases, the AI refused the prompt or produced an error, and sellers blindly copy-pasted these refusals into the product name fields. This led to a proliferation of listings where the titles were literal ChatGPT error messages.
What broke inside the model
- 01 · TriggerA user prompts the model in public view.
- 02 · Model stepThe model produces unsafe or off-brand output.
- 03 · Control gapNo filter holds the line before publish.
- 04 · FailureThe output goes public unchecked.
- 05 · ConsequenceA reputational or safety incident lands.
A contained signal crosses into output that goes public.
The failure was caused by automation bias where sellers failed to review AI-generated output before publication. Additionally, Amazon's listing platform lacked the input validation necessary to flag nonsensical, AI-generated error strings as invalid titles.

Realm watches the model's internal state for the signature of unsafe or off-brand generation and can block or reroute the output before it becomes public, in real time rather than after it has been screenshotted.
