What happened

In December 2025, scammers contacted Shelby Erickson, whose sister Deeanna had been missing since June 2025. The criminals sent an AI-generated image of Deeanna bound inside a van and demanded $10,000 in Bitcoin, threatening to kill her if the ransom was not paid. Shelby immediately contacted the Calgary Police Service.

The image was reportedly AI-generated; the specific tool and whatever safety controls it had are not identified in the available reporting. This allowed malicious actors to synthesize a convincing image by replicating details from public missing-person posters.

  • Prism

Realm compares what the model is about to output or do against the policy that governs the deployment, in real time, and can deny or redact the action before it takes effect, which is the gap an after-the-fact review never closes in time.
