Meta AI image generator fails to represent interracial Asian relationships
Meta's AI image generator on Instagram repeatedly failed to produce images of interracial pairs involving Asian individuals, instead returning images of two Asian people. The tool also exhibited racial stereotyping and a tendency to homogenize Asian identities.
The image generator not being able to conceive of Asian people standing next to white people is egregious.

What happened
In April 2024, it was reported that Meta's AI image generator struggled to correctly render interracial pairs involving Asian people. Users requesting images of Asian individuals with Caucasian or Black companions often received images of two Asian people instead. The system also relied on ethnic stereotypes and homogenized Asian to mean primarily East Asian.
